Club History

1957 An approach was made to Hanno City for permission to build a golf course. The city gave approval and promised cooperation, leading to the start of the construction.
1958 December Office established in Shintomi-cho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
1959 January Meeting of promoters for establishing Hanno Golf Club Co. Ltd.
February

Placement of orders: Course design to Ikkai Izumi; design of the clubhouse to Nakayama Architect Office; construction of the course and clubhouse to Ikeda Construction.

Denjiro Tohtani, the first president inspecting the planned location for the course (center, wearing a fedora).

February Hanno Golf Club Co. Ltd. established; registration completed; and start of the first recruitment drive for club members.
April Second recruitment drive for club members.
August Start of construction of the clubhouse and other buildings.
October Third recruitment drive for club members.
October Course construction completed.
November Partial opening ceremony, comprising a three-day event including a commemorative competition and a social gathering.
1960 August Recruitment drive for weekday club members.

Full-fledged opening ceremony, including a three-day commemorative competition, attended by Prince and Princess Takamatsu.

Friendly competition and party to mark the club’s official unveiling, inviting prefectural and city government officials, people related to the golf club, and former land owners.

1961 October Granted membership of the Kanto Golf Association (KGA).
November Granted membership of the Japan Golf Association (JGA).
1962 January Course rating determined through KGA assessment.
September The club allows 100 weekday and family members to upgrade to full membership, increasing the number of full members to 1,200.
1965 September Prince and Princess Takamatsu attend the fifth anniversary event
1970 September Six-day commemorative competition to mark the club’s 10th anniversary.
1975 September Two-day commemorative competition to mark the club’s 15th anniversary; ceremony to unveil the monument.
1980 June Completion of footbridge over the prefectural road, to connect Hole 5 and Hole 6.
October Three-day commemorative competition to mark the club’s 20th anniversary.
December Publication of Hanno Golf Club’s 20 Year History.
1983 April New enclosure net built along the side of the prefectural road beside the driving range.
1985 September

Hosted the 36th Kanto Open Golf Championship, won by professional Seiichi Kanai.

September Two-day commemorative competition to mark the club’s 25th anniversary.
1989 November Green B renovated to use Penncross.
1992 April New 35 m-high enclosure net built along the side of the prefectural road beside Hole 6.
  New 35 m-high enclosure net built along the side of the prefectural road beside Hole 7.
1996 April Completion of footbridge connecting the clubhouse to Hole 1.
1998 November Green A renovated to use Penn A-1 type of creeping bentgrass
1999 March New clubhouse built.
2000 June

Hosted the 33rd Japan Women's Open Golf Championship, won by Kaori Higo.

2003 November Hosted the 10th Japan Mid-Senior Golf Championship.
Hosted the 17th Japan Grand-Senior Golf Championship.
2009 May Hosted the 17th Japan Women’s Senior Golf Championship.
August New 45 m-high enclosure net built along the side of the prefectural road beside Hole 5.
2010 March New 35 m-high enclosure net built along the side of the prefectural road beside the driving range.
2010 October Three-day commemorative competition to mark the club’s 50th anniversary.
2010 November Hosted the 15th Japan Mid-Amateur Golf Championship.
2011 March Publication of Hanno Golf Club’s 50 Year History.
2014 September Completion of covered bays in the driving range.
JGA/USGA course rating and slope rating determined.
2015 October Three-day commemorative competition to mark the club’s 55th anniversary.
2019 August Green B renovated to use bermudagrass (TifEagle).
